A strong and fiery prop from the Scottish Borders area, who gained immortality in Scottish eyes by being Scotland’s captain in the 1983–84 Five Nations championship series – its first outright win of the championship for 46 years. It was also Scotland’s first Grand Slam (winning over each of the other four teams) since 1925.
